on an R plate and I want to find out what year the car was actually built. I hear some cars could be built earlier but not actully got registered until a few years later because of a botched far east order

maybe ask at a FRIENDLY dealer - they may be able to tell you if you tell them you are planning to buy the car?

W210 on an R plate - i would guess it was built no more than 1 year before delivery as the W124 was still in production on a P plate.

You're thinking of the Indian W124s.

Nothing to worry about with the 210s, other than rust...
 
talking of rust....

It had some rust on the back tailgate around the lock.

My mate also spotted some rust on the top of the front struts area. I know this is fairly common. What sort of money does this cost to put right.

Could I get both done by MB on the body warranty?
 
I do not think that this would be done under guarantee now the car is too old for that, and MB have a cut off date now I believe

The under side could be Waxoiled to hold it back, look also at the tops of the doors behind the rubbers

you need to have owned it for 6 months before submitting a rust claim. make sure that its the original paint though as if its been re-painted then they wont consider it.

they all seem to rust here so not a deal breaker - just cost the repair into the price you offer him
 
Agreed! to cost in the repair thats why I am looking for a ball park figure to work out how much to offer him :)

How much is he actually asking for it? i reckon maybe around the 2K mark if its a saloon with rust. has it got leather, electric seats, climate?

hmmm, 4k is probably not far off the right price aslong as the rust is minor and the rest of the car is good. i would start your negotiation at 3.5k then...

i was looking at the exact same car as yourself a few months back. i ended up deciding to get a W124 (shape before the one you are looking at). It cost more than an early W210 but is mint and i got it from a specialist, but it depends on how enthusiastic you are for these mercs.... i figured that they were much better built and the model i got is getting quite desirable/rare, so depreciation should be a thing of the past as loing as i keep it good and for a few years :)

are you planning to run it on Veg Oil? because you can ;-)

I would love a slightly older W124 but finding private estates under 5K local to me is like finding hens teeth :mad:

Would you run this one on straight veg or use a mix e.g. half and half in the summer! How much does it save if you do not declare tax, per tank full!

you dont need to decalare anything aslong as you dont exceed 2500 litres of veg as fuel per year (which unless you do high miles you wont).

in summer a 80 veg/20 disel mix should be fine. i plan on twin tanking for 100% veg.

i actually now have a W124s - both on veg.

if you are wanting a multivalve W124 then its hard to find a good one - look at www.w124.co.uk to see how much good ones sell for. i bit the bullet and paid a premium to get a good one.

you could get a cheaper one (usually around 2k to 3k) but it will need work unless you are a very lucky buyer!

merc diesels are tough - only issue to look for on the W210 will be the rust, but it may well be good - compared to others. if there is just rust on the wings and around the boot lid then i would say that it does sound good and will be cheap to fix if you can find wings the same colour from a scrap car and bolt them on yourself.

which veg oil to use? where do I get it from any pointers welcome
