MB 300CE-24 Sportline
Hello all,

I am getting serious about getting the old 300CE back into shape and am not confident about the capabilities over here in France:

Background

My car is a 1991 Mercedes 300CE-24 Sportline. The VIN is:

WDB 124 051 1B 423 409
.
It is an original Sportline but it was fitted with a Bilstein B12 suspension kit in 2008 that I am quite happy with (would have preferred original Sportline) but that my son is very happy with.

This car was supplied to the original owner in Monaco and I am the second owner (since 1997).

The car now approaches 400 K Kms (250 K miles) but the engine still seems excellent and the gearbox, whilst having given intermittent reverse problems before a filter and fluid change, also performs well.

Why am I approaching you?

I live in France and have done for 20 years. The car is in the Dordogne at my home but I am living and working in Paris 500 kms away.

I have used the MB main dealers and have received reasonable service. Specialists here are rare or, at least, I cannot find them!

Importantly, I spend a lot of time on the UK MB forums and have learnt a lot. I have also tried to contribute and some have had success with my recommendations.

I like the forums and the people I have ‘met’ on them and I know that some are MB specialists in their work. It is YOU that I need!
I have had some direct contact with Alex in East Anglia, Ian in the northwest, Ollie in Portsmouth and others. I respect your opinions and, perhaps most importantly, your enthusiasm and honesty. This is why I favour the idea of bringing the car to the UK, rather than using the locals.

My plan

What I hope to do is the following:

1. Get the car from the Dordogne and then visit my mum in Appledore, Kent.
2. Bring the car to one of you and leave it.
3. Return to work in Paris for several weeks or even a month or two, depending on your and my needs.
4. Return to you and find that everything’s gone to plan and drive back to the Dordogne in comfort!

Naturally, I would hope to keep in close contact via email (preferable, due to work) or telephone (I have a UK mobile) such that we can discuss unforeseen issues.

So, what I am hoping for is someone who is prepared to respond to my list of requirements and come up with a solution.

That, really, is it!

I have not posted all the details here but have prepared a Microsoft Word file that contains all the requirements and columns for your responses. If you are comfortable with that, email me and I will send the file.

My email address is:

[email protected]

If you're not happy with using the Word doc, email me and I will send the requirements back to you by email.

It is my hope that we can launch a project that will give the old car a new lease of life.

Thank you all, in advance.

Kind regards.

Ray Hennig

PS: I shall post this in the other place so I apologise if this annoys anyone!
