Just to warn everyone about them, they are the worst mercedes dealer ive ever been to, i bought my 2001 W210 E55 AMG after i bought the car i went to check it with them for any problems or anything, they found few minor problems which set me back 1200K all togther, replaced all 16 spark plugs and a few HT leads and the little grill on the bumper it was not secure they replaced it with a new one and it was still not secure, one day i was on the M25 trying to over take a lorry the grill on the bumper fell out and went right into the front tire and riped it i was doin 75ish at the moment i went to them told them what happend they made lots of execuses as they always do and said its not because of the grill etc and they said they will order a new grill and fit it for free which they did after 4 weeks and bought me tire which i had to pay for anyway anyway all the work that they done to the engine it didnt make a diference, engine was still a little shacky not smooth i duno what they done i coudnt tell to be honest, the car had already been chiped from the previous owner, what they done without asking me they boot straped it or somthing they rested the ECU and played around with it, before when i bought the car, it was HYPER a touch of the gas would make it jump it was unbelivabley quick nothing on the road could match it, it eats re-maped M3's and c32's all day long but i made a big mistake by sending it to the mercedes dealer in guildford they played around with the ECU without being told the car feel slugish it doesnt respond the same i have to floor it to get the power out. its not an E55 amg anymore its more like a c43 amg. anyway i went to West-Tuning to see whats going on why the car is like that now, put it on the rolling road, it should of came out with 355bhp and 391ibft of torque which is the standard power instead of that it came out with only 325bhp and some really low figure of torque and the economy of the car has also gone up, Ray at west tuning said it was a mess they put a really old software that he use to use in the mid 90's anyway he sorted it out now set me back 870 pounds to get the mercedes mess sorted out now the car is back to being a real 55 AMG managed to get the power to 380Bhp and 410ibft, also timed the 0-60 3 times came out 4.7secs i'm just waiting for the car to get use to the power again and waiting for the remap to settle in. this is my experince with guildford they messed me about with soo many things i could go on all day long about how they 1st said yes they played with the ECU and then the next day said no they didnt etc etc its a real nightmare i'm never going there again they are really poor and unprofessional! I hope noboday experiencd what i have with guildford mercedes! they are ****!

Nope I spotted one full stop in the middle somewhere. Boy was that painful reading.

Set you back 1200K? £1,200,000? No wonder you're annoyed. You could have bought a new E63 and a Bugatti Veyron for that money.

He is only trying to give some advice, yet everyone seems to be taking the p**s.
Is this a forum all about MB and to improve our knowledge of our cars, or is it now becoming a forum to just rubbish someones English?

Good English makes a post readable and understandable. For example OP says economy has gone up - that's a good thing - but I don't think that's what the OP means. He think he means his consumption has gone up but who knows?

If you want to rant about something then at least make sure that those reading it don't have to work too hard at working out what it is you're ranting about - same principle goes for all posts;) . Otherwise what happens is what has happened here in that the message trying to be delivered gets lost.

Well said!

Yes I agree good English helps - but at the end of the day he was rather cross when writing so therefore it did turn into a rant.

I managed to fully understand his sentiments and that is what was the most important issue. We all tend to forget the correct grammatical english when upset or else why would swear word have evolved.

And to be honest if we were to pick up on grammatically correct english and spellings this forum would give most of us a field day....can't even begin to tell you how many people end sentences with prepositions etc.

Remember " a preposition is something you shouldn't end a sentence with"....lol...:bannana:

Now I sit back and await the corrections.

A Spin Doctor Speaks!

I think the technique is described thus by the "spin doctors " among us  "if you can't answer the statement try to discredit the person making it instead, to divert attention from what he is saying"

Well thats how it should have been said. My eyes are still hurting from attempting to read it!

I reckon your mate at West Tuning has taken you for a ride. MB can't proram old software onto your car; your symptoms sounded like a failing MAS sensor!

If a remap had been done, then the only thing MB can do is return it back to normal, not detune it. But flashing the ECU will not do this, it will not get rif of your remap. As far as i'm aware MB don't have the software to reprogram the ECU to that level

Did you tell them the car was chipped when you asked them to work on it?

Was this car fitted with a specialist replacement chip or just remapped? Did you tell them beforehand? A lot turns on that

Your experience could be bad luck because I have found Tony Purslow in Guildford to be really helpful as have a few others on this forum. They are certainly a great deal better than some of the MB owned dealerships I have come across.

But then, as the product warnings say, Your Experience May Vary

Thanks KLP,
I gave up on the first effort and have just read through your attempt.

I have NO experience of this dealership, but I do pay very close attention to comments folks make about dealerships and this particular name regularly pops up but it is usually for the best of reasons?

I fully accept there will undoubtedly be the odd case of poor treatment and we will only usually get one side of a story.

Allegations have been made suggesting certain things regarding the vehicles performance and again the dealership can't defend itself? I am NOT disagreeing with the post, I have an open mind and we all have the right to moan or just complain about poor service. Is this one of the dealerships that offer discounts on labour charges for vehicles of a more mature age and has the complainant put in writing his complaints and posted them to the Managing Director?

Oh and I left school at fifteen with no educational qualifications so hopefully folks will forgive my lack of grammatical perfection.

Ah but you were clearly at school when grammar and spelling were taught and it shows. I don't think you need to ask forgiveness at all, your english is excellent (for a foreigner from the West Country anyway  :D )

Thanks, that made it far easier!

I fully agree with your thoughts, I don't believe that MB can do what was described. Retuning an ECU, let alone tuning down an E55 and using a mid 1990's program doesn't sound right at all.

Secondly, what brief was given to Tony Pusrlow when you booked the car in? I have never had any problems with them, however that doesn't mean no one else would experience the same.

Secondary Modern education, the cane, ruler, and a blooming great big plymsole (I'm sure my backside is still showing the imprint  )

This thread is highlighting a few contraversial items and it is unfortunate the Purslows cannot respond to them, but perhaps that would not be helpful and might well develop into a verbial slanging match.

BenzedUP,

When I had a company car and used to use Tony Purslow I found them to be really good. Now I just use them for spares and the parts dept could not be more helpful. Did you put your complaint in writing? and did you get a written reply from them?

First off BenzedUP clearly you have had a bad experience with the dealership mate and I'm sorry to hear that but i have heard nothing but praise for them in all other dealing people seem to have had but then i suppose everybody has off days.

About your re-map if it was software based as most of the newer port jobs tend to be then the dealers star diag is more than capable of erasing that and would not hesitate in doing so, its a total flash so it starts over from the beginning no exceptions are made for custom software of course if its a hardware based job then no amount of software is going to effect it.

To upload out of date software is certainly possible and there has been the odd notice with some releases asking the techs to keep an eye on whats going on because of XYZ issue with that release however while possible its not exactly easy (that's an understatement) and to be honest not very likely that anybody would be daft enough to do such a thing, much more likely your car was restored to the latest release of factory software for your car.

If you told them to stay away from the ECU because it has been tuned then no-doubt they would have but if they where not told otherwise then they can't really be blamed for it, its something thats encouraged to make sure the car is up-to date when its in for service work and they most probably did not even think twice about it.

If you warned them about it then i guess you have a good foothold to get the work done on the car to return it to where you felt happy again refunded to you however if you did not then there is not much that can be done.
