Hey guys...really would like to buy a w124 500 this year. The one at jt autoclassics is tickling my fancy, expensive but looks good with all jobs done.

Mercedes E500 Silver

Obviously being in Belfast viewing isn't just as simple, so thought I'd ask here if anyone has seen it in the flesh/had dealings with them/any other general tips.

Cheers!!

They've been creeping up steadily over the last few years. It's at the top of the price spectrum, this year anyway!

For that price I'd be looking at LHD SL60s personally

I must say that does look nice but top money though

That's a normal price for a W124 E500

If the condition is above average, the price would be even higher. As a Porsche built car, you can be certain that it will increase in value over the next 20 years - if you don't write it off.

But you need a W124 E500 specialist / expert to evaluate it.

Not wishing to diss it - bear in mind that it's a car designed in the 1980's. Brilliant car, in that context, but it won't be as fast or flexible as a modern car.

Mike:30K is Limited territory so no it isn't a normal price for an E500

Only if they actually sell for those prices ;)

A good point! There was a 3rd W124 E500 on there last week and that one has already gone. I sadly can't remember what the asking price was though. I'm fairly sure it was also above £30k though perhaps not by much.

1994 500e

I was thinking of something like this 1994 500E which went for £35k at Bonhams last year. (It describes itself as "Limited" but wasn't one of the 120 Limiteds made and registered as an end of run in 1995)

There are two W124 E500 on autotrader at the moment, one for £35k and one for £40k! Prices may well be on the up...

Both being limited with less miles than the one the OP is asking for

Wasn't "Limited" limited to Spring '95 ?

Apologies if I'm wrong - I was a wee babe of 40 at the time, but aren't "Limited" cars only from the 1995 run-out production run?

Just the last 120 cars that rolled off the RS2 plant in Spring 1995. Mechanically not any different, except for a few baubles like duo tone leather seats.

So Limited cars are rare: just 1% of total 500E production. But specific only to Spring 1995.

Nice car but too much. That should be priced at £20k max. It's been sitting around for months, probably because of the silly asking price.

Irish guy- I'm also from Tyrone. I have MAYBE the only 500E in Ireland. At least I've never heard of another one being here except for one advertised for sale in Dublin about 6 months ago which vanished so assume it was exported.

500E's are awesome machines. Check out my owners thread on 500E board. Typical of expenditure required on a 25 year old 500E. I bought it a year ago now & am doing a rolling resto.

That silver car is very highly priced & doesn't even have the correct E500 headlamps. Buy wisely- 500E's are very expensive to buy parts for. I'm at about £9k in parts since I bought mine but admittedly I am doing a resto.

Engine harnesses degrade & many 500E parts are now NLA so it makes putting right even small issues quite a task.

Best of luck with your search & I do hope someone brings another 500E to Ireland!

Great car but not an everyday car because it is now too precious, more's the pity.
Limiteds are even rarer. So what, so is Legionnaires disease. Two tone interiors are trying too hard. In the current bubble market, I would not be spending £30,000 on a 124, no matter how good they were.

Cheers guys. I'll maybe hold off and keep an eye out for a good private car.

Jc220...i'm in moira. The guy thats selling the e500 in the link sold one to Ireland a couple of months ago, there is also another owner in the north that I've send a pm to. Still a very rare car indeed!!

That's cool there is more than one 500E here! Indeed at some point if you get the other members details & you get one too we could do a '500E run'!

Have you seen or driven a 500E before?
