iv got my 2000 model ml 270 and was wondering if anyone has chipped one?
or maybe better to leave alone.
also has any one put some decent wheels on one they lack badly in that area

Hi,

Chipping does work, but, the exhaust gas temperature does go very high when driving hard or towing heavy loads. The EGT are quite high even with standard programming. I have had turbos and exhaust manifolds fail more often than 'normal'.

Bigger wheels seems to wear out ball joints and rear damper bottom joints even more quickly than normal. And at over £100 a balljoint, it can become a bit tiresome. On my ML the joints seemed to last about 25K miles before play started again.

Cheers,

Job

Got mine chipped to 200 HP and 480NM. and fitted 295/40/20".

50000KM=31250miles and no problem. Fuell consumption is also lower then when it was standard.

Greetz... Ben

I would be wary of chipping alone.

As Jgevers has said the EGT will go skyward, and additionally the CAT may block causing additional strain in the engine or spitting back.

If you are going to chip the engine then you need to fit an EGT gauge to monitor the temperature.
