Mobile Mercedes specialist in North Lancashire

A fellow Mercedes-Benz Club member contacted me today, asking about the whereabouts of Mick Gudgeon, who is no longer at Lime Tree Garage at Halton, near Lancaster.


Until last month, Mick was joint owner (with his ex-wife) of Lime Tree Garage, but they have sold the garage, which is now under new ownership. Mick was a top mechanic with Mercedes dealership H L Gorner in the Yorkshire Dales for 12 years, before opening Lime Tree Garage some 12 years ago. Mick has set up his own independent, fully equipped mobile workshop and he is prepared to travel within an hour's drive of his home near Carnforth, Lancs.



Mick has looked after all my Mercedes cars for the last 10 years and has always provided first class service at very reasonable prices. Some Mercedes-Benz Club members may remember a Gazette article I wrote several years ago about Mick (entitled "A Quiet Man"). Another fellow Mercedes-Benz Club member in Morecambe used Mick's mobile service last week and spoke very highly of his work (again) and was happy to have the work carried out at his own home.

A little late to the party, and not even (yet) in possession of a Mercedes, but thank you for sharing as well! If I'm lucky enough to find a solid looking and realistically priced W123 in the area I may well see whether Mick could be persuaded to inspect the car (for a fee of course). Post-purchase, it's also great to know that there's a reliable truly local indie for things my usual go-to garage, who understand older cars as well, can't fix.

He did a great job servicing my SL and sorting out a few niggles I had with it, all at short notice and on time. He was very good in my experience. Hope he's still working now I'm coming back to Mercedes.

A quick update: Mick has now visited my house twice in the last couple of months to carry out work on my Mercedes (and my next door neighbour's Jaguar). Both times I was again delighted with both his work and his very reasonable labour charges of £40 per hour. His mobile garage (i.e. his large and beautifully kitted out van) is very impressive, as is the amazing quantity of specialist tools he carries. It's worth pointing out that Mick has a relationship with the Mercedes dealership to deliver parts to him (on a daily basis if required), and it's not unknown for them to phone him to ask his advice - especially on older models!
