Why don't main dealers fix things any more... On top of the on going noisy fuel pump that blights the SLK range... I have Issues with a plastic insert at the top of the filler neck, it has a habit of coming adrift from it's fixing and jamming at an obscure angle once the fuel cap is put in place and turned. It's now done it 5 times, on two occaisions jamming so tightly the car had to be recovered as was unable to fuel the car and one jammed with the fuel nossle in it, it came loose as I extracted the nozzle and jammed, meaning MB had to come out and take it to bits to get the nossle out.
Each time MB have simply out it back, not bothering to find out what the issue is, why it comes loose. Having gone again, the Main Stealer, MB Brighton, have now decided to replace the whole tank, filler neck etc, whilst I like decisive action, if find it hard to comprehend how performing open hart surgery, spending a full day changing a tank, and removing parts that were happy where they were is the way to go before spending 5 mins looking at what the issue is before going down this rather extreme route.
Given how bad MB Brighton have been at fixing things, generally the service has been terrible , things bot put back properly, even had spanners and tools left under the bonnet, found them a few days later when I looked inside...I am concerned that them doing this will open all sorts of issues with parts not put back properly etc when they have to take so much off to get at it.
I have one more service under warranty, then the car will be in the very safe hands of Ollie Black for everything, then I can breathe a sigh of relief and avoid stealers full stop.
