Hello, first post after 7 months of lurking! Currently not in the UK but I am an Englander in Germany, getting lots of stick about the football...

The question I would like to ask is, does anybody have any idea what this connector could be connected to? Currently it dangles loose just to the left of my brakelight switch, coming from the same bunch of cables that connect to the brakelight switch. My car has ASD so all three connections (2 piggybacking and one smaller single connector) are all present on the brakelight switch.

I would hazard a guess that it may be an earth of some description, as the earth to the instrument cluster is also fitted with this type of connector. It has an MB part number and star and as far as I can see it hasn't been spliced in afterwards, the brakelight switch cables and their wrapping around the bundle is all untouched.

I am not really built for grovelling around in the footwell so I would rather ask first then remove panels and insulation later! Plus it seems the panel under the steering column and around ignition barrel is a right royal PITA to remove.

Car is a LHD 1989 300E MoPf0 (pre-facelift). With ASD and heated seats and no air con.

Hopefully someone may have an idea, otherwise its start tearing the dashboard apart and battling with the lovely wooly scratchy sound deadening insulation therein...thanks in advance!

Is the MB part number a secret? Would help a lot us who are not familiar with this MB model.

Hello DieselBenz, thanks for your response.

The part number is 5451428 which simply shows up on the russian online parts catalogue as "Stecker", which is german for "Plug" or "Connector".

Didn't think it would be much help in this case, but its worth a try.

EPC finds several connectors with the part number A??? 545 14 28. My knowledge about this car model is not sufficient to even guess which one could be the one you found. I'm sure someone else from the forum would be able to help.

Does everything work correctly? If so, tuck it away and forget about it.

Does this car have cruise control, if not it MIGHT be a brake pedal switch for that, but also it could be a clutch pedal switch connector.

All I can find for the 124 is
A016 545 1428 Plug Pin (used for ASR)

Morning,
Thanks for your responses.

Richard, it is connected to one single black wire which joins the bundle that also contains brakelight switch.

V12 everything does now work properly, I took the brake pedal switch out and replaced it to cure an ASD fault, surprising really, the cheap component was the fix, not the valve, pump, sensors or lines to the diff! Yes everything works but it would be nice to plug it back in where it belongs.

The car has no ASR or cruise control. Clutch pedal connector sounds likely. Clutch is just fine, touch wood. Had brake fluid changed about a month ago by a taxi service centre in Berlin, done properly with a pressure pump and the back section of brake fluid reservoir (clutch hydraulics run off brake fluid in this model) looks to be full. I'll look into the clutch pedal switch, thanks again.

Will post back later, hopefully sorted!
