Greetings gents (and ladies)

I've just joined the forum and thought I'd make a quick post to say hello and ask a very silly question!

I've just bought a rather battered 1988 420 SEL and am collecting tomorrow:

Silly question 1) Will it run on regular unleaded?

Silly question 2) Any really obvious things to keep an eye on for this model?

Hi Benjj, welcome to the 'Club'.

I used to have a 560sel on a 'G'. I used unleaded ok, but I would suggest you use 'Super Unleaded' though. I know you might get differing views here, but I've looked into it quite deeply, and the general concensus I found was that it was best to use the high octane stuff on any merc pre '91.

NB. It's funny, they forced us to use 'unleaded' but all 'jet-fuel' is 'fully-leaded' because if they used 'unleaded' the engine would 'self-destruct' in no time. Makes you wonder?!.
