New Merc, new user

Hi,

Bought my first merc on Monday and thought I'd best learn more about it now! Very different to the Leon I had before and so far quite impressed with the C220 CDi AMG.

Foot brake is taking a bit of getting used to and trying to figure out the on board gizmos is fun.

I've read about datasheets for the car, is this something I should be looking up? How might I do that?

Data card: Checking VIN for Mercedes-Benz | CARInfo but you can also ask the dealer for a copy; it shows what the car has/was built with.

A lot of information to go through but looks as though the styling is amg but not so much the engine!

The full fat AMG models are normally shown as C63AMG, E63AMG and A45AMG. When you see, like your car and our now sold A200 Sport AMG, the AMG part denotes AMG styling and not AMG performance….it's a sales thing and has been much debated on this forum.

I can see why! Bunch of crooks but my bad for not checking fully. Am still well impressed with the engine so no big issue for me

Yeah just an AMG sport. If it was an AMG engine you'd know about it. The engine would be massive, handbuilt, hundreds of horsepower and wouldn't be a diesel.

Just like BMWs with M Sport on them. It's not an M3, etc...

Don't envy you hill starting with a manual and that pesky foot(hand)brake! Remember years ago test driving a Citroen that had the same system, stalled it twice and nearly rolled back into the car behind at uphill traffic lights, hated it (and did not buy the car!). Almost as confusing as the electric parking brake on my son's Renault Espace, had fun driving that from Aberdeen to Sussex for him.

Yep there is a hold function. Apparentley whilst standing still quickly release brake peddle and press it again firmly (that's what I was shown) and you'll see the symbol 'Hold' show in the centre console!!!

I've seen a few manuals mercs but they aren't that common. Important bit is that you should be enjoying your new car.

I assumed the hold function was only the autos. Is it on the manuals as well?

Yep, easier to use uphill more than down if you're stuck in traffic but very useful given the footbrake.
