Hi,
Hoping to get some help and advice.
I am experiencing the common problem of losing kickdown on my Merc E270.
3 months ago the car suddenly lost kickdown and restarting it fixed it. Since then, I had the issue 4-5 times. But since the last 5 days car regularly loses power after 5 minutes of driving.
Stopping and cooling it for few minutes, then restarting cures it but happens again in few minutes. To add to this the engine management light has also come on the dash.
Took it to an Indy, star diagnosed and it came up with 2 faults. One was to do with the Left EGR valve and the second was with rear speed sensor. (I replaced the speed sensor 3 months ago as the ABS/ESP light came on and it was fixed)
Indy said, the loss of kickdown is due to the speed sensor fault and engine management light is due to EGR. EGR costs £300 in part alone.
What I am unsure is that speed sensor causing loss of kickdown and engine management light caused by EGR, I though EGR would have caused the loss of power from reading on these forums. I got the car back to have a think and the engine management light briefly disappeared but is back again now and the loss of power remains.
Any thoughts please? Any other way to fix the EGR rather than buying a new one?
Thanks,
Raj
