Nothing Happens When I Turn Ignition Key...

Hi,
Ive not used my 2001 CLK for 6 months or so, it's been on trickle charge to keep battery topped up. Went to start it and battery was flat, so put in boost charge. Now when I get in and put fob in ignition it makes usual sounds, panel warning lights come on, but on turning fob to start there's just a click. Anyone have any ideas? Any advice welcome, it@s booked in for MOT tomorrow at 8.30!!

Give the starter motor a clout then try again.
The click is the starter relay, so electronically the system is working.

Have we transported back to the 1970's?

That was exactly the cure we did on Minis back then. It usually worked.

Starters are still the same in principal today as they were back then.

Just the price is a lot different.

Sounds like a duff battery. Had similar symptoms, new battery fitted all o.k..

New battery probably required. Batteries that have sat around in a flat condition for long get their plates sulphated and often won't recharge.

thanks everyone for help, new battery fitted and all ok. and made it for MOT this morning... here comes more expense!
