Damn fine question!
This is one that I was about to ask but was beaten to it by Twisted yesterday.
In view of C180's response I looked at the iTunes store, only to find that there are literally dozens and dozens of choices.
A brief and sloppy summary:
"NovaScan - The ODB Total Solution" costs £14 but has no reviews.
"Dash Command" and OBD Fusion" both cost £7 and have 4/5 star ratings. "DC" has 4 times more customer reviews and a previous version apparently cost £35.
Thanks to Twisted for raising the question and to C180 for the steer, but does anyone else have any further advice on this matter?
Naïve supplementary question: how does one connect the iOS device to the car!

All good wishes, lim

Why spend 45 quid each time there is a fault code that can be sorted DIY?

I use a 11 quid obd2 tool to sort simple things

But I have now a remote Bluetooth obd2 device that links to an iphone app

Why go to merc for simple fixes. I don't think so

Excuse my ignorance here but can this Bluetooth device both read AND reset fault codes.
Thanks

One word...Jailbreak;)

I jailbroke my old phone, but this one is the company's lol

Staying away from that idea.

I should be up and testing the weekend. I will report back.

What's the obd type, where from and how much
Thanks
Andy

I bought an elm 327 obd connector from Amazon for about £6, and then downloaded the Torque app, and it is able to read and clear faults on both my c270 and the wife's Audi, as well as a few friends cars.

It may not read or clear as many faults as the dealer diagnostics, but if it can clear one, or even identify one, then it has paid for itself!

I have the same now.

Cheap Bluetooth adaptor (eBay 6 quid) and torque.

Works great for the basics !

Star of course for 100% thorough analysis.

Cheers all. Happy twisted!

Ring the garage and ask for star diagnostic. Sorted

OBD tools work "while driving" too... There are apps that turn an iPad into a pretty nifty digital dashboard (speedo, rpm, mpg, etc) on any OBD car.

Spinal,

An interesting prospect. Yet no-one has responded to the OP or my #5; what are the best iOS Apps and what are the pros and cons - also my naïve supplement, how is the connect achieved?

Yours, in anticipation, lim

I am on Android, and it is as simple as plugging the blue tooth connector into the diagnostic port, turning on your phones blue tooth.

Once connected to the scanner, open your chosen app, and select scan.

A Bluetooth adaptor. Like this one

Don't iPhones need the wifi version rather than Bluetooth?
