I'm buying something from a guy on another forum - I don't know him, but he's a regular on there.

He's suggested a PayPal friends/relatives payment.

Will this cost me?

Alot of people use paypal F&F to avoid fee's, if your not sure of the seller you can always pay the fee yourself and use payment of goods instead.

The gift payment removes your ability to reclaim the money if something goes wrong. Whilst it won't cost you, it removes payment protection.

i recently did the same and the seller asked for paypal. I paid an extra £5.30 to cover the fees on £150. He said should have just done friends/family but this way I was covered. Thankfully everything arrived as it should but I would pay the fees to be safe.

Thanks guys - job done.
It's on a BMW forum isn't it :( we've lost you havnt we John

Don’t forget John (and everyone else), if you do ever pay by PayPal AND THEY collect in person, you are NOT covered by their protection policy. As the scammers normally claim from PP once you have collected the goods, by saying they never received the goods! Obviously this only applies to PP goods and not gifts/family option.
