Is it just me?

I have seen a massive increase in these emails over the last few weeks, 2 this morning and very convincing ones too:

National lottery, some old bull about customers may have compromised accounts and should reset password/

Paypal, same kind of story.

Even the email addresses look legit on the above.

I know that we all think that we are above falling for this kind of thing but when you have used such websites recently it seems plausible that you might need to reset passwords etc.

I found myself hovering over the 'click here to reset your password' link earlier and had to give myself a good talking to.

I closed my pay pal, and various other accounts including an old Playstaion account but yesterday i received one that was very convincing asking to complete a survey why i left them.

I closed the playstion account because they renewed it years ago when i called them asking them to cancel the renewel, they didn't which led to i long email chain of anger on my part and P**s poor customer service on there's and my pocket being £60 lighter.

That survey email nearly caught me because for a split second i was filled with all the past anger and wanted to give them a piece of my mind again though i quickly deleted the email.

I have an advantage of owning a few of my domains, and never use the same email address for two different suppliers/accounts/subjects etc.
So when an email arrives from 'PayPal', addressed to say, printing@[myowndomain].uk I don't even have to think twice ;)
I also know who had compromised that particular email, and it gets promptly deleted and replaced ...
This had worked for me for nearly 20 yrs now. And it's a doddle to apply rules, to sort out incoming emails into their relevant folders.

I get loads of phishing e-mails , ranging from women that want to marry me ( obviously never seen my ugly mug!) , "business" propositions and just about every scam going. Also received the National Lottery one today ( from [email protected] ) . I think I will change my password , but just log in without using the link in the e-mail.

Registered on any websites or apps recently?

One useful " tell" is that these "personally addressed" communications cannot , by their very nature, ever address you specifically by name but must start with" dear customer , Your account has --- we have received information that---- etc etc

Those days are gone.

It will be interesting to see if the new General Data Protection Regulations reduce Cyber crime. If they manage to enforce it then the criminals won't have your e-mail address in the first place. Those organisations that collect our personal data for legitimate reasons are going to have to take better care of it and not sell it on or they will be in for some seriously big fines.

My wife has a business website that ranks highly with Google, the downside being the plethora of junk emails every day that have to be checked in case one is from a potential client. It’s always difficult to know how far to follow the “unsubscribe” link.

ditto.
i have a business e-mail account and have constant spam & porn attacks. I daily delete about 90% of the incoming emails.
Due to the small nature of my business I believe my account details have been sold to the spammers by........................................................

....................my local authority.

Thanks guys - I pay you to care for me not to profit from me.

3 more today, 2 claiming to be from my bank saying that my account has been accessed and I should click the link if it wasn't me and another claiming to be from Office365 and telling me to log in and renew my subscription.

I report these every time but suspect that MS cannot keep up.

i've had a few from hmrc saying i'm owed for over paying income tax, surprised by those as i'm a full time carer for a family member so not working

had a pay pal one at the weekend too and asian/russian women looking for a date
