Hi there MB experts.

Well, having confirmed my ticking noise as piston slap I have removed my engine, stripped it down, removed the offending No4 Piston & Conrod.

Now I am trying to source a replacement.

There are various numbers cast on the side of the piston & etched into the crown of the piston. Do any of these identify the specific piston I require.?

My vehicle is a 110cdi Vito Type 638
2001
611980

Do any of you knowledgeable guys know if all the pistons in these 2.2 engines are interchangeable, or can offer me some advice please.

Or does anyone know where the best place to buy a piston is please.?

Are you just replacing the piston/rings without repairing the block ?

Piston £100.00
Rings £70.00
Bearings £100.00
Seals etc etc etc......£££

It would be cheaper to buy a complete short engine (block) secondhand and pop a set of crank seals in.

Something like this >> http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mercedes-...749?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2a29fed42d

The only pistons I have in stock are standard RO 8857's they are used in 220's 270's and 320's

Think yours are RS 8853/4's
