Hi there guys, i wonder if anyone can advise, i have a 56 plate e320 cdi with 115k on clock, i am noticing a sweet smell from outside the car under acceleration, and the odd bit of white smoke when putting foot down, i am suspecting headgasket failure, however, the car is not overheating, the temp never goes higher than 83 degrees, no warning lights, or noticebale loss of coolant, the oil cap and dip are fine so im thinking maybe this is the early stages can anyone shed any light, and also any one have any ideas of cost of headgasket replacement if it is this, the car is a v6 320 cdi on a 56,
many thanks
steve

Take the engine cover off and take a look at the injectors - might just be a leak somewhere.

It is very unlikely to be a head gasket failure.

many thanks , actually have no idea where they would be lol , but thanks , car still driving fine, still smelling that sweet smell under load, it seems to come and go, no other untoward signs, am checking oil and water daily all is fine
