August Horch (Horch means listen in German) founded Horch cars and then founded Audi (which means listen in Latin). These two companies merged with DKW and NSU to form Auto Union, whose four ring logo went on to be that of Audi.

Recaro seats takes its name from Reutter Carozzerie, a carriage maker turned car body maker, who built the Porsche 356 bodywork before splitting into a Porsche owned production plant and a seat maker.

Alpina, the BMW tuning house, orginally made typewriters until the owners son decided there was more future in tuning cars than making typewriters.

Like Recaro, Alpina tuning started in 1965.
