The Austin 7 was the car that BMW, Datsun, Jaguar (Swallow Sidecars), Lotus and McLaren built as their first cars either under licence or as specials. It was also built as the first car of American Austin who went on to design the Jeep.

The main reason attributed to the failure of the Ford Edsel was that the grille looked like an ermmm... lady part.

The term horse power is recognised as the pulling power per one (horse) .,
However , the physics contradict themselves , as one horse power is correct as at 1kg mass being moved in a neutral wind . As you wind up the power , the horse power per kg per mass unit being propelled gets diluted at the rate of 0.994 decreasing per kg ( dependant on resistance of course) , so , in actual fact , a 470 hp C 63, accelerating against a headwind of say 15mph at say 50 mph , is only producing a power output of 391 horse power .
Therefore .... buy an E63 ! [emoji23][emoji23]

Rostyle wheels of the 70's.

The R O stood for Rubery Owen, a big West Mids OEM supplier.

Volvo invented the modern 3 point safety self belt
They then made it free for all manufacturers to use recognising the social benefits it would provide

PS the inventor himself worked on ejector seats for Saab as well

The life of American inventor Thomas Midgley (1889-1944): his two most famous inventions are now banned because they are a danger to the environment: the use of lead in petrol and the use of CFCs gas in refrigerators. How much more harm can one man cause to the planet? He died of strangulation after getting caught in a complex machine he designed to help him get out of bed when he became disabled.

Aston Martin "DB"

The "DB" stands for David Brown - him what made tractors too. You dont see James Bond on a tractor very often do you? Or do you?

Ferruccio Lamborghini started his career building tractors... and his firm Lamborghini Trattori is still going strong today.

Smart cars started out as an artistic small car concept by Swatch watches, who collaborated with Mercedes for the mechanical side, hence the name S(watch)M(ercedes)ART.

Carroll Shelby collaborated with the Rootes Group to help them fight off competition such as Austin Healey and Jaguar by putting the same small block Ford V8 (4.2l and 4.7l engines) used in the AC Cobras into the Sunbeam Alpine body, calling it the Sunbeam Tiger (I used to have one!).

Sunbeam Tigers were assembles in the Jensen factory, based on a Hillman Husky chassis, using a Ford engine and box, and a Jaguar axle.

Ferruccio Lamborghini started his career building tractors...

...and moved into making fast cars after being insulted by Enzo Ferrari after complaining that Ferrari clutches were crap ‘Lamborghini, you may be able to drive a tractor but you will never be able to handle a Ferrari properly.'

First bi-turbo was the Maserati Bi-Turbo.

First supercharged car was a Mercedes.

First twincharged (turbo and supercharger) car was Lancia Delta S4 Stradale.

Andy Green's World land speed record in excess of the speed of sound was only verified after officials had walked the course and traced the wheel tracks in the dust to prove the vehicle didn't leave the ground.:thumb:

The XJS was meant to be mid-engined

The original (1960 ish) idea for the XJS was that it should be mid-engined, which is how those rear buttresses came to be included in the design.

The MR2 had to be renamed in France

Toyota had to come up with a new name for its sweet little motor, when the French pronounced MR2 as Merde ("sh*t")

There are Easter Eggs in modern Vauxhalls

In 2004, Vauxhall / Opel designer and diving enthusiast Dietmar Finger (sic) was working on a car design and his son doodled a shark design on the drawing. Dietmar thought it was cool and youthful, so the design made its way into the Corsa, Zafira and Adam vehicles.

(It's called an Easter Egg because that's what game designers call a "hidden gift" for enthusiasts.)
