Cheers. I thought the Dolly engine and the Saab engine were distant relations.

Yes - they also did a Dolomite with the 1.5 slant 4 - but the Sprint was a two litre, 16 valve 4 cylinder.

The Triumph slant-four was later made by SAAB. The SAAB version was much more reliable.....

No - the stag has two Saab 1.5 V4s bolted together to make a 3.0l V8!
Nope - but there is a Saab link.

The Slant 4 Triumph engine really is half a Stag engine. The link with Saab is that they used the Triumph-designed Slant 4 to power the 99 when their own engine development being undertaken by Ricardo proved to be too costly and risky. The Saab 99, Triumph Dolomite 1850 and Sprint and the Stag all had the same requirement to take the cylinder head off with a saw as it seized to the studs

The Saab V4 was sourced from Ford and was the same basic unit that powered the Taunus, Corsair, and Transit vans.

The SL R107 was the longest running production model for Mercedes . It was also the best car they ever made.

The serpent on the Alfa Romeo logo is eating a person. Depending on source it's either, a baby, or a Muslim from the time of the crusades. The other half of the emblem has the red cross on a white background, also from the time of the crusades.

Mines a pint of Stella please.

Despite the bravado of the Bentley Boys of the 20's and 30's and the Blower Bentley, the first non-atmo Bentley to win Le Mans was in 2003:eek:

Yes you are right - I got confused between the V4 and the slant 4!!

BSA made a FWD three wheeler quite a while before Citroen brought out their 4 wheel offering

On a Renault 14, the wheelbase is longer on one side than it is on the other.

Because the torsion bars overlap one in front of the other. Must apply to some other French cars with torsion bar rear suspension, Renault 4 for one.

Smiths easydrive auto gearbox - used on Hillman Minx.
This had magnetic couplings that worked with iron filings!!

The Austin Allegro had a square steering wheel, even though the definition of wheel is 'round'.

The prototype Morris Minor was called the Morris Mosquito. When Alec Issigonis saw the prototype he judged it too narrow and it was sawn down the middle and the two halves moved apart till he thought it looked right.

1978: Mercedes-Benz W116 became the first production car to use an electronic four-wheel multi-channel anti-lock braking system (ABS)

Koenigsegg's use Mercedes mono wipers, as fitted to all 90s Mercs, last seen on the final edition of the R129.

Rightly or wrongly that's often quoted as the reason for the raised 3" moulding down the middle of the bonnet.

If you put a mattress in the back of a Transit, you have a Bedford van.
