Quick question about telematics

Sorry if this is a naive question. I have a SL 400 on order. I haven't opted for the convinience telephony option as I can't see much point in it.
So my understanding is that just by plugging in my iPhone to the USB port will give the same functions as my current 6-series and that is telephony via blue tooth and audio streaming with album cover art via a USB cable. Is that right?
Also if I purchase the Mercedes-Benz universal cradle - that should work fine with the functionality mentioned above even though I won't have t opted for convinience telephony

I have an E Class and connect my iPhone via Bluetooth, gives me audio streaming and hands free telephone including phone book access etc. Not sure what you'd gain, if anything, by connecting via cable or the cradle.
