I know that it's quite hard to find these in good condition with the vanity mirror cover hinges intact, but please let me know if you have any lying around that you wish to sell. Thanks in advance.

Hi, have you checked ebay.de? There is at least one specialist breaker on there that might be able to help.

Many thanks for that. There does appear to be a right hand one in colour '272' for 159 Euros + Postage. Still quite a bit of money so I suppose I'd better check the cost of a new one first!

Agree it is a bit pricey ... Its one of those things I guess ... You might find one next week in the Uk or might wait months.
They do seem to price parts very high in Germany.
I thought I had spotted one on my travels.
At least exchange rate is a bit better in recent months.

I have now contacted my friendly local Merc parts guy who tells me that you can buy just the sun-visor 'cassette'. This appears to comprise of the mirror assembly, complete with hinged cover (i.e. the bulb/switch assembly is not included). Priced at £58.06+vat. Part number 129 810 2317 ???? (???? = your trim code. Mine was 272 that has changed to 5076). Comes apart easily enough, just remove as you would to change the mirror illumination bulbs. Part now ordered from Germany so should be here after Easter.

Good news then in the end!
I was surprised how cheap some parts can be ... I think the side repeaters are 6.50 or so plus vat that I need. Used ones sell for 8.50 on ebay.

where did you get that price?

The genuine Bosch ones are over £40 each.

This is the little side repeaters ... I ran the part number through the inchscape online system.
The fronts are about £80 each.

Have I got something wrong? (Quite possible!!)
I didn't buy them when I checked as I wanted to put a bigger order together and get them in person from my local dealer.

New sun visor 'cassette' turned up from Germany in just two days. Now fitted and looking great! Will be a shame to sell the car but time for a change now, after almost eight years of ownership.

What will be next (car) do you think?

Not sure at the moment. Would like to buy something interesting but maybe a little more practical. Could really do with a seven seater these days! Part exchange may be considered. :) One thing is for sure though, the build quality of the R129 will be hard to beat.

Audi S range always worth a look?

They are pretty well screwed together. Maybe a nice S6 Quattro Avant would do.

A good compromise. What out for gearboxes though ... They fail often.
Need one that's been rebuilt already ideally.
Nice cars and on my list ... Loving the SL though so range Rover might need to give way instead if I get one.
Of course always the RS6 too ;)

What Range Rover do you own at the moment? I sold my ML55 a while back and really miss it. :-(

I have a 2002 4.6 Vogue in Oslo blue with cream, piped blue. One of the last P38 made so quite attached to it.
This is the first warm weather since I bought it and the aircon is ice cold ... Amazing?!
Do like it and LPG also makes it reasonable to run .. Not that I worry about fuel costs too much. I have a 58 mpg Beemer too.

Range Rover sounds great and so does 58mpg from the Beemer! I don't think I get 58mpg from our three cars combined!

The Range Rover is nice, its like most 90s and prior cars ... It has character!
It does need some love though ... Its been badly keyed.
I keep meaning to get it looked at but I fear it needs a respray.
Also pervious owner didn't notice the bird cra p on the roof. It ate right through the paint! (Two inches wide almost)

It worries what I will buy in the future ... There is very little on the market I like and those I do like I can't afford (Aston DB9 or SLS)

Car design and build quality/finish in general has just lost it the last 20 years in my opinion. (Not that you could say a Range Rover is well built but at least it is fun to drive)

I can't tempt you to buy my SL then? It has a lovely new sun visor 'cassette'. :)

Tempting but one is enough for now. I am seriously considering a SL600 though after this one but I may even hang on to it. I am seriously impressed so far even with the few blips.
