Is there a way to tell how many race starts a car has done ?

I know of A45s that have done over 100 and no issue at all.

Merc will be able to read it for you, like BMW and VAG can on their cars. It'll either have a launch counter in the ecu or a way of measuring the clutch adaptation / adjustment.

As above, the A45 (mine did) can do over 100 launches with power mods and still have no issues. Mine was abused for 18 months and had no dramas. It was tuned after 1 week. The C63 (W204) I believe should be fine for a good number of launches, even with a supercharger fitted (to stage 1). The box will only allow so many launches back to back anyway as it measures heat in the clutch and fluids. I've done over 20 launches in my C63 and it's been mapped for most of it. The previous owner may also have dabbled a bit with launches too.

Not sure about other models but AMG generally makes decent gearboxes that take a lot of stick.
