I have an SL280 R129 and want to change/flush the system and replace with a good anti freeze/coolant.

Can anyone recommend the best stuff to use please?

Have trawled through past posts and searched the internet but to no avail.

Get the genuine MB stuff, not that expensive from the main dealer.
Don't forget to ask for a discount.

Use the Mercedes stuff, probably cheaper than that from auto dealers.

Mix to a 50:50 ratio with good water (some say to use distilled water especially if your local tap water is hard with high mineral content) and change it every 3 years.

Gee you must be using the wrong search engine - there is tons of info out there on coolants for Mercedes vehicles - especially on the Mercedes Forums:cool:

i use veetech (red), reds probably the best out of the two (red and Blue), but dont mix them, good price at GSF

FWIW the genuine MB coolant (dyed blue) is G48... http://www.worldpac.com/tagged/MBZ_ANTIFREEZE_G48.pdf
Back in the day when these cars were current MB stuff was usually dyed yellow and based on the G05 recipe. Both flavours appear multiple times in the mb325.0 coolant specification*... Mercedes-Benz Specifications for Operating Fluids: Engine Oil, Gear Oil, ATF, Coolant, Brakefluid

Colour is meaningless as it's just a dye and while there's some conventions there are no standards about what flavour should be dyed what colour

* back of the owners handbook should list all of the different fluids by an mb spec number, the bevo link can be used to translate into brands/generic specs

Extensive Googling has come to the conclusion that Comma G48 is the only approved stuff that is easily available in the UK. I got 10L of the concentrate for just over £40 which is enough to do the BMW ( Its BMW approved too) and the SL. The Japanese machinery just gets cheapo stuff as they are both bullet proof and disposable :)

Don't use tap water as it contains minerals or suspended particles that can damage engine components and clog up the radiator pipes over time.
