Hi chaps.

Been a long time away form the forum, as up till now I have been having reliable driving of my older Mercs.

I now have a 55 plate 220CDI est. Had it serviced at a good local garage, and up till now all been fine. However it has started missing a beat, usually at around 65-70 and sometimes at lower speeds. The local garage replaced the cam sensor, but this seems to have made it worse, as now it will skip a beat a few times, then go into slug mode where I cannot kickdown or accelerate!
It was suggested I go get it looked at by a specialist, which I did locally, they say they checked the star system, but I am sceptical. The nearest pukka Merc dealer are Vikings in Canterbury, but they want £140 just to look at it!
Not rolling in money, so wondered if anyone has a suggestion of a reliable mechanic that covers the Thanet area, or I can even travel to them.

Paul.

Give MB Medway based in Rochester - Gas House Lane - a try. Tell Mike I sent you.

There are two options in the Thanet area. The prefered option is going to Class Cars in Sandwich. They looked after my Mercs very well over the years, and last time, albeit two years ago only charged about £35 quid for a straightforward star fault diagnosis.

Class Cars - Home

The second is Mercworld behind B&Q on the Enterprise trading estate.I have not used them, although I went to them for a quote to replace the heater duo valve on my E55. They quoted me around £400. Steve at Class Cars replaced it for about £130 inc Vat. Anyway they have STAR diagnostics so might be worth a call.

Mercworld Ltd - Online

I would take a trip to Class Cars at Sandwich. As I said they did all the maintenance and servicing on my E55, and do all the work on my families slk280 and C350 estate. Labour rate is half what Vikings charge, and they are not even a main dealer! You have to go to Ashford for that since Canterbury Mercedes shut a few years back.

Thanks chaps, duly booked into Class Cars as they are quite close to me, in a weeks times. Fingers crossed they find this problem, it is driving me nuts. Just do not trust the car at the moment. Mercworld although helpful, did not find a fault, but neither did they charge for taking a look. Just think another set of eyes may solve it.

Paul.
