Hello folks,

does anyone have experience of using a reputable garage for 4 wheel alignment (toe/camber/castor/etc.) in the Lanarkshire area?

The hunter machines are usually heralded as the best, but does anyone know of an operator in my area?.. and are they experienced (as I'm of the opinion that regardless of machinery/method used, it's only as good as the operator completing the assessment/adjustments)

Additionally, I'm aware that ATS now nationally provide this service at some branches. I appreciate people wouldn't go near them due to reputation, but just looking for any actual experience of using anyone in my area as they do represent good value at £64.99 for both axles.

Is there any methods I need to be aware of for my car (i.e need to start from the rear first, etc.)

Car - 2004 CLK500 coupe

Thanks in advance for the pointers!

Depending on how far you are prepared to travel there is a recommended chap in Larbert - pro-grip Pro-Grip Wheel Alignment Specialist

He did my CLS around a month ago , which needed very little in the way of adjustment , just the front wheel tracking.

He doesnt carry camber bolts as there are too many variables so you would need to get the check done and make a return visit with the bolts , if required, to complete the alignment.

He is normally fully booked a week or two in advance which tells you something , he also checks ALL suspension components for wear as trying to align a car with worn joints is a waste of time, which may also require a return visit.

I visited a few local places before i decided to travel to Larbert but none of the local shops filled me with confidence.

No point having a fancy machine if you cant operate it properly.

Thanks for the heads up Kenny and completely agree!

Can see you're Paisley based, bit of a shame you weren't able to source any one closer to home or at least Glasgow/Lanarkshire based... Got to be a least one decent garage that can provide the service in our area?

What was the cost with Pro-Grip and length of time required?

Cheers, (also) Kenny

You have an hours slot , to check and adjust the alignment.

He noticed slight play in the offside TRE balljoint but i didnt have time to get to MB Grangemouth to get the part / bring it back / fit it and recheck the alignment so i had to return a week later once i had fitted the new part.

On my return he carried out a comprehensive check taking measurements all over the car and not just relying on the downloaded sizes from the Hunter website as , correctly, he said they dont take into account , spring sag / full or empty tank / full or empty boot.

The alignment was successfully completed and i was charged £60 in total , he never charged me for the first visit hours which i thought was very fair.

No wonder you recommend them, seems like a rather comprehensive service...

I've just had the front anti-roll bar and a replacement track rod end so I'm keen to get alignment after any suspension work.

I'll be booking myself in I feel!

Cheers, Kendo
