remote central locking

Hi , I am new to the world of Mercedes , and recently got a 220 coupe , which needs work , I have a issue with remote central locking , sometimes it works and sometimes not , it just could be batteries but my luck doesn't run like that , the previous owner said to cover the fob with your hand to simulate dark conditions but this doesn't work too well .
what do you guys think am I stuffed or will it just be batteries ?

Try changing the batteries and try using your head as well.

What year is the car?
There is a receiver in the rear back window which receives the car radio and the remote signal.
There is some connection with the fuse for the car alarm as well so worth checking that out too.

Did you try the head thing in the video?

the car is a 2001 220 cdi coupe I have no idea where the receiver is sorry , no I didn't try the head thing , was sorely tempted tough

First, try new batteries in the remote and check any fuses relating to the alarm or central locking.

Is it a C class or an E class that you have?

I believe it is a "c" class , at least it says so on the handbook , I also note it has tints in the back windows , Thanks for the link , I will check the back windows and connections to the antenna .
