Mercedes E Class 320cdi V6 W211
Hi all, I'm new here so hoping for some help.
My 2005 E class W211 320cdi with SBC braking system has failed its mot on corroded brake pipes, my question is does the car need to be plugged into a diagnostic PC to bleed the system after the pipes have been replaced or can this system be bled in the conventional way, secondly does anyone know of any after market dignostic systems other than star that can perform the power bleed function as well as being able to read the auto transmission level to allow me to service the gearbox as mine has no dipstick.
Many thanks
Colin

not sure about the brakes but you can buy a dipstick from the dealer or ebay to measure the gearbox level, merc do not fit a dipstick

As said the gearbox does not come with a dipstick, you can buy a good one on ebay cheaply. It is a service tool and not designed to be left in there (it will not go all the way in).

Are the brake pipes corroded that bad? Or just surface rust?

As for the SBC, I'm sure other specialist tools like Launch or Snap On may be able to do it, but they are not cheap either. Where are you based? Someone here may be able to point you to someone who can do the brakes for you.

The brake pipes have been listed as a fail point by an MOT station i have used for a long time and trust especially as I know the owner, my location is Teesside Near Middlesbrough north east england, I am happy to do them myself im just after information such as can they be bled afterwards using the conventional pumping of the brake pedal, the reason I asked about diagnostic software i have dabbled for years on numerous cars from BMW, Audi and with some of the features of my delphi software Mercedes, amongst others I would rather invest in a system that covers the families cars as well as the merc if i can
Thanks
Colin

You cannot bleed in conventional way, not sure if you can use a pressure bleeder.

Do you have more than one MB? If you do, I would invest in a STAR clone, in fact I would even for the one vehicle, will soon pay for itself if you are planning on keeping the car

Indy at hendon did mine he didnt use any fancy bleeding equipment. I car soft i980 lets you control sbc. The pedal is just a switch nothing more .

Thanks for the icarsoft information you don't know which one do you I've looked on ebay and amazon they list 2 different MB models basic and advanced
Thanks
Colin

Mb2 is the best and newest one. Ebay lists the full functions of the i980 in the listings . i need a one myself tbh.

Thanks for that ordered one off amazon should be here next week I'll keep the post upto date when I know everything it can do

Quick note I got the Merc back yesterday from my mechanic who said he bled the brakes with a pressurised bleeding kit
