Retro fit roof mounted aerial to W211

I own a 2004 W211, the radio reception is patchy due to light tinting of the rear screen.
Is it possible to fit the later type roof mounted aerial to my car.
Is the connection the same ?
Will the co-axial reach ?
Is there anything in the roof/roof lining to stop mounting the later type of aerial.

I thought the aerial on the roof on later models was for FM radio.
Is it still in the rear screen on later models ?
If so any tips on improving reception apart from removing wthe tints.

Only see external radio aerials on cheap hatchbacks and some convertibles nowadays.

The tint won't hurt the reception, it's on the inside Possible that the installer damaged the connections fitting it though.
