Meanwhile in Salford, I think that story has to top them all for ruined Christmases. :'(

It doesn't remotely compare to some of the things already mentioned but we had a power failure one Christmas day which meant no heating in the house and no cooking facilities. Another year the heating element in the oven failed on Christmas morning which left us cooking in a microwave. You improvise and survive. Christmas day could get boring if it was always the same.

It's easy to focus on the negative but this week may be when a significant step forward was announced in the treatment of Hungtington's Chorea Its easy to write this off as a non-story but the Swiss pharmaceutical giant Roche has paid a $45m licence fee to take the drug forward to clinical use. The drug, developed by the California biotech firm Ionis Pharmaceuticals, is a synthetic single strand of DNA customised to latch onto the huntington messenger molecule produced by a harmful genetic mutation in suffers of the condition. Perhaps even more exciting is the potential this customisable biopharmaceutical has to slow or prevent other neurodegenerative diseases such as Altzeimers.
Woody would have appreciated it.
