Hi I have purchased e class 220 2012 and they have 17 inch alloys with new hankook run flat tyers. One tyre firm told me they should not be on the car as not the right rims. Just need to know if this is right as it runs ok.

Rubbish... The only different wheel was the Demlock made by Dunlop.

Apparently run flats aren't the best with alloys

Heard they more likely to cause buckling if you hit a pothole

Very true..... The wheel is made of light weight composite alloy to reduce the unsprung weight due to the tyre. Problem is since there's no give in the sidewall to rim takes first line defence and can crack.

Runflat wheels have a secondary rim inside the tyre to stop the runflat coming off the rim when cornering with a flat Tyre, normal rims don't so the tyre could leave the rim when flat and cornering.
