Santa Pod Raceway RWYB Sun 6/10/02 or Sun 13/10/02

Following on to the previous thread,

Who's up for a trip to the Pod for a GTG and a bit of friendly racing/spectating next month? I have picked the dates from the replies already received previously - but if anyone has a preference for 27/10 or the 3/11 I will happily revise these.

Please add your name to the list below and indicate the preferred day please

Mark 6th or 13th - not bothered - probably both anyway

Mark

Yes, add me.

Either date, but the 6th if I must choose (only because it's closest).

EDIT: PS. I want to see Billy's ML55 vs. Maff's CL500.

We can do a bit of "prep." for you on the day.

Loose the:

Mats
Air Filter
Spare Wheel

Stuff you don't need to go a 1/4 of a mile as quick as you can!

You had better bring your old wheels too!

Depending on work commitments and response from other members I’ll come to this one and don’t mind what date. Oh and you won't see the 180 on the track, whats the point.

For those of us who have never met, how will we recognise each other? Or will we arrange to meet at a certain location and time. If it helps I look just like Mel Gibson - Not

The point is - you must help me on my quest to bring better opinions about manual Mercs!

You must race an Auto C180 and show who's boss!

Bar the chance of fluffing a gear change, we should be quicker off the line.

Good point Graham, I think I could be tempted.

Any 180 Auto's out there want thrashing?

What's it cost to get in etc?

Either dates good for me (6th is my Birthday so no one is allowed to beat me on that day&#33

Think I'll bring the CL55 & see how good Maff's diet is!

LOL! I've said to myself for awhile now, the day I get beat by another vehicle is the day I send the car to Kleemann. Already been in contact with them for 510bhp, now I just need a good excuse!

However I received details today of the new supercharged CL55 which is very tempting, the £96,000 put's me off though.

looks like the 6th it is then

It will be £9 pp to get in and another £10 if you want to run - dont forget your licence !
Depending on how many turn up we can have a couple of meeting points to go up/down in convoy. When I go with the other clubs we normally meet at South Mimms and then 1/2 hr later at Toddington.

We should recognise each other due the cars! - There are not too many MB's at the Pod. When you go into the Raceway there is a long road leading to the track and a carpark on the left. IGNORE THE CARPARK - drive straight past and follow the road around the back to the main area. Look for other members or park up in the vicinity of the Cafe. - thats it

I'll do some maps and with my phone number on closer to the time.

Mark

PS - Some of the Rover boys are already giving me Agg about taking the "slow" SL to the pod

All the excuse you need the car in the bottom right hand corner is a 400HP 4WD Cosworth powered Capri - about to get its butt kicked big time !
This was the last time I saw this run - it ran a 12.6 and sounded like a banshee ! - its a 1.6 compound charged ( thats a supercharger feeding a very large turbocharger).

Mark

Billy,

So you have a ML55 and a CL55. Wow.

Anything else we should know about?

Mark,

I read this on the Santa Pod website

"Helmets required for RWYB bikes and open top cars and vehicles doing 100 mph or more at the finish line."

If you are doing anything below 14 seconds I would have thought you will be over a ton?

Is this rule enforced?

got any videos of the Fiesta? Not many MK1's on the road now! esp ones with the round lights XR2's?

That one looks like a supersport or sumin - got any more pics?

They dont make anyone wear helmets for RWYB

I ran my cabriolet without one but you must be "roof up" and windows closed. Just normal safety precautions really. All the pro guys all wear helmets but they are right at the limits of what the car can handle and they dont want to hit the concrete.
I've seen a couple of cars break going down the strip but I've never seen a RWYB runner crash

Andy doent wear a helmet for his 12.4's !

Vin

It is a Supersport and looks very very std from outside, the trouble is I didnt know he was there until it was too late, I heard it burning out and ran to get the only pic of the day - the one above. He does run on slicks to get 12.6 though

Mark

yeah I knew it was a supersport - I sold one about 5 years ago - it was a 1300cc and had a retrofitted sunroof and was the same colour... your one in pic has a sunroof and is the same colour - I am just wondering if it is the same one?

mine was a W reg.

LOL check out this C180 Turbo: it does 1/4 Mile in 15.34s and 0-60MPH 6.87s - Must turbo charge my car!

LINK

Nice conversion - some observations

2.7 seconds is not a very good 60' time !
15.34 is a repectable 1/4 mile time for a 1.8
94 mph is a good terminal speed

This tends to show that it has good power once its moving, but either he cant get it off the line - or the box just wont do it !

It would be quicker on 15"'s too.
