Please help, my beloved 1 month old c-class has a lovely windscreen wiper shaped scratch where they've obviously dragged grit, or similar, across the screen. It's not particularly deep, and it's just below my viewing angle, but it's definitely there, and catches the sun all the time!

Does anyone have any advice / solutions to this annoying little problem on my otherwise lovely car!

Many thanks

Depending upon how deep the scratch is (generally speaking if you can catch your fingernail in it, it's too deep) then you may be able to get it polished out. There are DIY kits available if you search the web, but you may prefer to get a glass specialist to do it for you.

As an aside, in 30+ years of car ownership I've never known windscreens as prone to scratching as are fitted to current MB cars. I was astonished to find that I'd created a couple of fine scratches on the screen of my then new W204 through scraping frost from it one morning. I'm now hyper-sensitive to this and use de-icer spray to avoid scraping the screen.

And, how easily they get tiny pit marks from the gritters! Never had this problem with any other cars in the past. Wonder what they're using for glass these days? :D

Replace it under the insurance. Same thing happened to my Wife's Fiat due to frost. It's nigh on impossible to fix it and a huge load of hassle.

Use warm water.

Polish it out with jewellers rouge. Worked for me on a Citroen screen which Autoglass said wouldn't work.

I have a kit which I have used very successfully on a couple of windscreens.

Agreed. Luke warm water over the screen. Excellent. Some reason it really irritates my neighbours who are out scraping away.. :D

It irritates me when my next door neighbour does it at 6.30AM and turns our drive and the footpath into an ice-rink!

Does he have a hosepipe attached to his hot tap? I find that a small jug does the job...
