Hello all,

My 1990 500SL is arctic white, a little too much arctic white as its had the plastics colour coded instead of the original two tone it came with, i love the early two tone look so want to have the plastics repainted, i contacted mercedes for the lower colour code and they gave me alto grey 7700, but this does not seem right, the alto grey looks like the lower colour on black cars but not white ones. Could anyone tell me the correct colour and code to the lower half of a white two tone car ?

Ive attatched pics to show the colour im talking about

Thanks in advance for any help

Paul

If you post your VIN, then I or someone else could check the original spec on EPC.

(Could have done it from the reg, but MB and BMW have just stopped giving VIN from reg no on their warranty sites.)

Update: 2nd post in this thread from another place states the grey trim for 1990 Arctic White W126 is 7738 Stratus Grey.

Poster obtained the info by phoning his dealer who had to contact MB for the colour number. Another poster reckons there is a label in his glove box which has the bumper/trim colour numbers on it.

This German website (again for a W126) states that 7738 Satograu is the trim colour used with 147 Arctic white from 10/88 onwards.

Lackierung und Polster ? Wiki zur Mercedes Baureihe W126

and that Stratus Grey is colour number 7177.

This thread says before 10/88 7177 Stratus Grey was the trim colour used with 147 Arctic White.

Maybe the previous Benzworld poster got confused between dates and/or Sato and Stratus?

Think I owe you an apology for the confusion.

Thanks, i gave the dealer my vin and he said according to my data it was alto grey but when i googled that colour i thought it couldnt be right, just wouldnt look right and ive never seen a white car with that colour lower body, hopefully stratus grey is correct.
