It could be nothing but just my perception, I agree for the price its a good car with the rare colour, nice mods and in good general condition. Even the seller was happy for me to ask John any questions about the car which shows that he's got nothing to hide. Also, for the record I don't have any reason to doubt the seller. It's just that I'm trying to get as much info/advice as possible before I take the plunge.

I think Wayne Gates are recommended in NW London. Olly @ PCS (who did the last service) near Portsmouth I think. I used Wright Tech in Sidcup for all the time I had it.

There maybe others more local but I am not aware of any in locality to there.

The fact that they took it to PCS for the last service means they care about the car being looked after!

I don't know how viable it is but you could maybe agree to have the performance checked out at MSLP and agree what would happen based on the outcome and who pays for what. It's obviously in both of your interests that the car is right.

To be fair though it is a bit of a trek though and will take a day, so I am not sure if that is something they'd be willing to do.

If they were closer to me, I could probably tell you whether it was running right. My rse dyno is perfectly calibrated for that car!

What you need is a more local reliable dyno. It almost certainly won't give the same figures but as long as it is in the right ball park it should be right.

If you like the car why not make a offer?? Surly if its not blowing any smoke? and no fault lights on the dash it cant be much?
Seems alot of messing about taking it to a dyno.

Look at it this way, If i was selling a car which i knew was 100% right, But the buyer didnt think it was id make a suggestion he hire someone to come and have a look over it.

I wouldn't be keen and taking my car for a dyno run for it tobe tested, Anything could happen. Just like i wouldn't want a perspective buyer to thrash the tits of it on a test drive and say "you know what mate" thanks but no thanks (just my Opinion of course)

I drove Johns car when it was for sale, And it went like F*** lol sounded the Dogs too. I appreciate alot can happen in a year or two.

I'd feel like I would be insulting the gentleman selling the car asking to take it to a rolling road. I wouldn't my car to go to a rolling road for the same reason above anything could go wrong.
At most I would get a specialist mechanic to give it a once over at my cost, it only seems fair.
There were no signs of mechanical issues i.e no smoke, no knocking, no over heating, no pulling or vibrations under hard braking.
Failing that I will just go for it and see what happens.
Even if I bought a standard one, I would want to carry out exactly the same mods which would cost me around half the value of the car give or take. If (a big IF) there something not quite right then I can rectify it myself and have super machine. Win Win

Surbiton is not far from me but I’m not sure what/how this would all work out? I have very little free time these days, so if you were about to pull the trigger on buying it I’d gladly come along and take a look over it for you but I couldn’t really afford the time if you’re unsure over it. Tbh there’s only so much you can check on a private sale and I doubt that the seller would want random people prodding over/test driving their car!

There’s a Mercedes specialist in West Molesey who are local and good but not sure they are into the modified stuff? They could probably check over for other stuff though - air suspension, steering/brakes any fault codes and what have you.

If you like the car and as Gav says it’s not blowing smoke etc then I’d get it bought, the engines generally are very strong on these, and any used car is likely to need some money spent on it to bring it up to standard regardless :)

Yes, I guess taking it to a rolling road would be taking the pss even though it would be the only way to know for sure it is chucking out the same figures still.

I wouldn't allow it!

However, as said, if it is not smoking and is running well, it's not likely to be anything serious.

It's well within capability for the engine and gearbox (my understanding is the standard limit being 800BHP).

It's also been running for well over 3 years in that tune. It never put a foot wrong in the time I had it.

If you want the same mods, you are saving a lot of money buying this one. All the work was done by Acid and Imran at Acid's. So everything was done right and properly.

I even did preventative on it like changing the engine mounts before the Kleemanns went in.

Despite the fact I would normally agree that any second hand buy will want money spending, I am willing to bet as much as I earn this month that it will want for nothing.

I'm definitely serious about this car. I would gladly pick you up too. I discussed potentially collecting the car this Sunday if I were to proceed with the purchase. Would that be any good to you?

I may be being paranoid so sorry if I'm turning this into more than it needs to be.

merc85 has some good points.

If I was the buyer, I would naturally try and knock a few quid of any car, a few more if i thought it needed work.

If I was the seller, I want top money, especially if I think it has no faults and is reasonably priced.

You need to make an offer, buy it and then get it looked at if you are unsure about anything. You will probably want to make it your own anyway and do even more mods.

Being a former member's car and then looked after by the current owner, I would take the risk. There are a lot more crappy E55ks out there...ask merc85, he's seen them all lol

Was going to PM you, but you need a couple more posts!

Will

I share your paranoia, Kam. Perhaps hence my suggestions bordering on ludicrous!

I think when it comes to generally the second most expensive purchase you can make, you don't want to pss away early 5 figures on a pile of.

However, I am in the unique position to know a lot of the history of this car which means I can be very confident about it.

ahem i may have a list lol, I'm very picky my cars and perhaps a little Ocd, They have tobe 100%, trouble with a e55k is people tend to buy them for what they are, A performance car, And they get driven like that, From the ones i looked at they owners drive them but tend to spend out only when necessary.

"Johns i hasten to add was looked after properly" from what i could see and feel.

When you see one thats right its obvious BUT... it may take time, I got a little impatient if i'm honest, And got taken in by the colour of Brutus, I initially turned it down but then the Seller rang me and we made a deal. I've completely turned mine around thanks to my trade and tbh i think it's right up there with the best, but it would have cost ££'s more if i wasn't in that fortunate position i was and am in.

I'd certainly buy a Forum car over a non forum car if i had my time again, I've certainly learnt a heck of alot about these cars also.

Is this the same seller that was selling a C63 recently as well? Same mobile number it seems. Seems odd to have an E55K & C63 at the same time doesn't it? Or have I got this all wrong?

Mercedes C63 AMG Saloon - Black / FMBSH

Gets through alot of cars by the looks of his previous posts

Indeed....I thought I got through some cars!

Good spot...hadn't noticed that. Fair enough. Still the same mobile number as the E55K ad. Maybe they were selling their friends C63 2 years ago and are now selling their friends E55k. There is quite a few friends cars being sold. I could do without friends like that ;)
