Hi guys

Recently my car(99 E300 td hasnt been driving as smooth and after getting it looked at its come back with a list

Ive been advised that i need

Front shocks x 2
Front wheel bearings x2 .. right side f***kd feels heavier when turning right
Front discs and pads
Front wishbone bushes x 2
Rear subframe bushes the ones that are off the frame smaller ones x 2
Rear right wheel bearing... has been making noise when off acceleration

How much labour do you think is involved hours?
I dont think i will be able to do it myself plus the weathers been bad aswell.

Thanks

thanks for the help!!!

5 hours my man said £200 labour aint to bad at all

It sounds good to me.
I wouldn't be able to do that lot in 5 hours.

The mechanic that i usually use advised this.

Ive noticed that the was going through tyres on the front, wasn't as nice over bumps and whatnot. Then later on it started making a whining type noise from the rear so i put it to get it looked at.

Front shocks x 2. Why? Are they leaking/noisy/soft/siezed?

Front wheel bearings x2 .. right side f***kd feels heavier when turning right. Any roughness when spinning the wheel/ play? Play can be adjusted. Bearings wouldn't make the steering heavier one way- I'd look at top mounts/shocks/balljoints for this.

Front discs and pads. if worn, fair enough

Front wishbone bushes x 2. As above

Rear subframe bushes the ones that are off the frame smaller ones x 2.As above

Rear right wheel bearing... has been making noise when off acceleration. Seems strange? Sounds more like the diff to me.

What's the mileage on the car? Original parts still fitted?

£200 seems very cheap for what's involved if it does need it all!

Hi,
I think he may of under estimated the time slightly, the rear wheel bearing is in the region of 3-4 hours to do on its own.

I have 2 x E300TDs.
The lower suspension arm bushes at the front is a common problem as the cars get older.
This mis-aligns the steering geometry and the front tyres wear very quickly.
The wear occurs on the inside of the tyre, so you sometimes don't spot it until it is quite advanced.
I recently replaced both of these (left and right) on one of my cars.
While you are doing it, consider replacing the front drop-links, as these cars tend to eat them.
You have to uncouple them anyway to change the lower suspension arms and they don't cost a lot.
If one of the front shocks is kaput, you should really replace them in pairs.
Have a good look at your front springs ... I had a broken one not so long ago.

All of these things can cause poor ride and tyre wear.

A 4-wheel alignment at the conclusion of these repairs is a good idea.
Again - You will get improved tyre wear and handling
However - It's essential to get all these other things right first.

Cheers for the reply

Shocks are soft cars really bouncy.. the rear bearing im jus going on what i was told

Car has coverved 430k

Original shocks bearings and rear bushes had the wishbones changed at around 200k
