We inevitably tend to focus on media personalities when they die but the passing of certain other individuals is worth a moment's pause.

I refer to Sir Nicholas George Winton who died at the grand old age of
106 this week. He was the moving force behind the evacuation of 669 Jewish children from Prague under the eyes of the Nazis. Winton found homes for the children and arranged for their safe passage to Britain. A largely unsung hero who restores your faith in humanity. RIP.

I'd never heard of this chap until his passing yesterday, or the story of what he did for all those children during the war.

For once there's a real reason for providing a person with a Knighthood.

It was also fitting that he lived so long and enjoyed so much life considering the life he gave to others.

I believe he was working in Prague and could have simply walked away. Instead he put himself at risk for others.
