Took the cover off the heater blower on my 450 , to inspect the bulkhead. luckily only some very light surface rust , but destroyed the seal/gasket. Any kind soul able to provide the MB part number please?

Alternatively can you suggest a waterproof sealant that will seal the plastic blower cover to the bulkhead , but can be disassembled if needed?

A1078350023. Not cheap, about £25. I'm sure it's like a crush foam similar to what's used when you put in a gas hob.

Would recommend a good pasting of waxoyl or similar in there. Remove the grills for easier access into the corners (PN for the plastic pins which will inevitably fly away on removal are A0009902292 - you need 6 at around 40p each)

OOPS! Just read your edit. Had not realised the grilles were removable. Is it just a case of pulling out the plastic plugs at the front?

Rang our local dealer ( Sytner ) , and surprisingly MB had the bits in their UK warehouse. Should be here tomorrow. Thanks Carl.

If you're talking 'removing the grilles' the windscreen lower surround trim has to be eased away slightly to release the back edge of the grille. If you're lucky the clips holding the trim won't be rotten and break off when they're disturbed.
Without the trim eased up the grille won't come off.

You need a little hole punch / watch screwdriver or similar. The centre of the black pin knocks in allowing the outer sheath to be removed. They're easier to remove than fit thanks to very poor access.

Mine weren't too bad. Would have loved to have replaced the clips (which were a touch rusty, but enough left to grip), but that requires new rivets.... and that requires the windscreen to come out!

Offside grille came out ok. Had a bit of a struggle with the nearside. Unfortunately, when Stevie Wonder resprayed the car he left the grilles in place. Consequently , removing the grille lifted some paint on the wing! grrr
