All, I have a 2000 year (W reg) CLK200 (non-supercharged). I'm probably going to replace it soon as the rust is just getting too much...
However, it has started making a strange whirring sound from the rear whenever I hit 1700 rpm when accelerating. It's difficult to describe. As soon as I get passed 1700rpm it goes, and it's not there below 1700. If I hold it at 1700rpm the sound is continuous.
It seems to be coming from the left rear, but could be central
I thought originally it was a wheel bearing, but that doesn't fit with the rpm link which I guess suggests drivetrain ?
Any ideas out there ?
Any help much appreciated...
