 OMG, see pic.

Is this an inspection hole minus the cover or what?

Can't really see as the picture is too close but it looks like the side of the torque converter, if so no problem.

It's not a great shot I know. I'm no David Bailey!

The over-exposed part at the top is the cross-member going underneath the engine and the thingy (nice technical term) with the hole in sits immediately behind the engine. I think you're right, the torque convertor.

Is this normal for the TC to be open to the elements? Had me worried when I saw a big hole in the engine!

Cheers.

PS. What controls the kick-down on these things, seperate cable?
Is there adjustment?

Mine doesn't seem to kick-down, so forced to drop it to third manually when necessary. I pressume this is OK to do!

I've checked the ATF, which seems a nice newish red colour (not brown or burnt smelling), haven't checked the levels yet as I have no manual (the Haynes book of lies).

That looks like the hole that gives access to the torque convertor bolts, there should be a rubber bung for it, but is absense is not a huge problem.

Thanks Nick,

When you say not a huge problem, what are the potential problems, i.e. water ingress/corrosion or stones getting in there perhaps?

Cheers Si

I should really add this info to my sig. I'll get round to it ASAP.

Cheers

Kickdown is cable controlled.
