I've had my S211 since Feb 2013. In that time, it's carried me and a whole lot else 65000 miles.
Problems:it's had a new water pump (seized solid), and both batteries have been replaced in the last month. It has one oscillating door lock, and I need to remove and rewire both mirrors, although there's no problem just at the moment. Also needs the rad replacing, it's the original and looking corroded.
The new battery cured a few niggles, still not got the SBC hold/stop back, though...

Good points: All of it, really. I'm a fairly sedate driver, so 45mpg on a run is normal, 52 the best ever. It can carry just about anything, and pretty much has.

In all honesty, I probably can't afford to run this car, but what the hell, you're a long time dead...

:D

How old and how many total miles?

Mine was one of the very last W211 and has been trouble-free mainly, my only expense outside of servicing has been an exhaust bracket.

I'm trying to establish whether I'm due some big issues.

It's a 2004 pre-facelift I6, coming up now on 236000. It works hard for me as a musician, plus driving a lot to London and manchester at one point, although that's tailed off a bit now. However, the music is ramping up again - hooray!

Considering the mileage, that is pretty good going. The only thing I can say is that it deserves a little bit of TLC, as do all vehicles in their senior years.

I give it all the TLC I can - I want to be still using it in another 4 years, hopefully...

Donkey's years ago, I had a Sierra 2.0 Litre GL, and it had a little bit of rust coming through, so decided to trade it in for a brand new Escort 1.3 Litre Bonus.

Worst mistake I made, that was. I should have spent money getting the rust repaired and keeping what was a brilliant car.

I discovered a little secret some years ago, and that is if you have a sum of money, such as £20,000, the older the vehicle you buy, the more bang you get for your bucks.

Tend to agree!
