E320 W210 M112 - has anyone replace a timing cover before?

Only on a M117. Obviously it can be done you just have to persevere. Why replace some thing wrong? There is a lot to take off before you can even get at the cover, easier without the radiator for a start. Don't know about the M112 but most MB engines seem to be much the same removing the chain guide bearings for instance using a slide hammer. Easing the sump down to allow the cover to come forward. How the oil pump is driven - if by chain it can be difficult to disengage and even more so to engage as the chain passes through the cover. Any way it is all possible you just need patience.

Why are you replacing it? Is it to do with the crank pulley failing? If so it should be repairable
