Just seen a 2006 FMBSH S65 lovely condition but has 200,000 miles on the clock. One owner from new paid £165.000 for it.
With 200k miles done - how long do you think before major problems with the engine? I know how long a piece of string can be but I'm curious as to what MB enthusiasts think.

Engines rarely go wrong these days if serviced as per schedule.

It's usually all the bits that are bolted to the engine block that go wrong, and at 200,000 miles I would expect to factor in costs for failures of any such items if buying a car of this mileage.

As said - it's the bits other than the engine that are the usually what goes wrong.

As with any car - make sure you take a good look and get it checked out.

For example, what if the brakes all round might need changing - which isn't cheap.

Then what if the car had say an oil leak of which the origin might be unknown.

Then you could turn up and find the car probably could do with a re-spray.

Suppose the car has been advertised since 04/03/2015 - might give you a clue as to why it is still for sale at around £16k just shy of a year later.

If you could get it for say £10k and spent £5k - you would probably have a great car assuming nothing else goes wrong!
