VIN Decoder explanation help!

Thanks to PobodY for his wonderful VIN decoder link which I tried for my Merc and got following results. There are quite a few things which I don't understand at all so would be grateful if someone can explain what that option means. It would be embarrasing really if I have something in my car and I never find out that it is there

Delivery date is the date the car left the production line.

- SNOW GRID ** (What is this?)
- SPEED-SENSITIVE POWER STEERING/VARIO STEERING** (??)
- INSIDE AND OUTSIDE MIRROR AUTOMATIC DIMMING ** (??) - The interior rear view mirror and both door mirrors will automatically dim when required.
- SPORTS SUSPENSION ** (how different they are from normal suspension?) - Sports suspension will give a stiffer less comfortable ride than standard suspension.
- TRAFFIC SIGN RECOGNITION** (what does it mean? I don't have any camera installed in car) - When you pass a road speed sign it will be displayed for a moment on the cars instrument cluster and in the satnav screen.

- UNIVERSAL COMMUNICATIONS INTERFACE (UCI)** (where is this interface and what it does?)

- SPEED- + LOADINDEX 92Y XL+94Y XL** (what are these numbers?) - Tyre loads.

- SNOW GRID There is a baffle arrangement in the air intake to help prevent snow from entering

- SPEED-SENSITIVE POWER STEERING/VARIO STEERING -- The degree of assistance changes with speed, generally less at higher speeds, giving more weight and feel to the steering. Greater assistance at parking speeds.

- INSIDE AND OUTSIDE MIRROR AUTOMATIC DIMMING as above but one slight correction, only the driver's side door mirror dims

- DIRECT START I believe this is to do with the Eco Stop-Start system

- ADAPTIVE STOP LIGHT FLASHING If the car detects an emergency braking, you rapidly go from accelerator to brake pedal, the brake lamps will flash to warn others of a potential rapid deceleration..

Whats the point of having Sports Suspension then and I agree I sometimes feel a bit stiffer in E mode, S mode is fine.

I will be filling up my tank quite soon (only 95 miles left) .. and this will be he first time I would fill it up as my dealer filled it up for me on delivery. My question is how I am going to know my tank is full? Do I have to keep an eye on the meter to see when it gets to 60 odd Ltr (65 Ltr?) or will I get any response from the hose itself that the tank is now full? (Sorry I never ever filled up my tank full before).. Also, is it a good practice to fill the tank full?


N.B: Like I said it says 95 miles worth of fuel left in my MPG/consumption indicator in dashborard.. it is going up and down obviously depending on how I am driving..sometimes it goes to 110 sometimes to 70... what will happen when it gets into singe digits? will the car stop or is there any emergency fuel in tank which then kicks in and how long will that continue? Well I think it is a good idea to fill the tank right up,all garage forecourt nozzles are the same,so stick it all the way in and fill it until the lever goes click, your gauge should register full,you can if you want,pull the nozzle out till it rests on the first ridge on the underneath of the spout and fill some more,but when that clicks that is it completely full up,pick one of the ways and keep to that and you will get a accurate mpg.

You will have a warning lamp come on by the fuel gauge to show you are running on reserve, which is normally approx 8ltr left in the tank.

Not 100% but think the standard tank capacity is 60ltr and the extended range tank is 80ltr. Your owner's handbook should detail capacities

OK so I was heading back from work and almost reached my home when that "reserve fuel" indicator popped up on my dashboard. So that 8L reserve would have kicked in. I drove to the petrol station which is like 5 min drive and filled the tank to full (I stopped when I got that first click). I was expecting it to take around 65-70L of fuel but it only took 56L! that means my tank is normal 59L tank and not any bigger isn't it? The consumption meter was showing about 475miles worth of fuel when I got to work.
