The other forum mention a new virus called R66V. I'm surprised our IT experts have not mentioned anything about this, unless it is another hoax.

There's only less than a page an a half in Google about this, dating back from mid-May.

So it's probably genuine, but considering the scarceness of information almost two weeks after the initial reports, I suspect it is just yet another virus rather than a major outbreak.

(Not much help if you got it though.... obviously :D)

Had a quick look and it's not even listed as a threat by Symantec (Norton) or McAfee.

I've got an old, decrepit, out-of-date, out-of-touch iMac G5.

:D

THIS MIGHT BE OF HELP I'm infected - What do I do now? - Malwarebytes Forum

Computer viruses are a bit like Ecoli---- they come in many forms and like bacteria can mutate if some "script kiddie " gets a hold of it and adds a bit of extra oomph to its nasty behaviour. So today's R66V may be a different =more lethal variant of the original.

No hoax - genuine.

Sadly

Kaspersky too knows nothing about it. It saw it running but only when it started trying to nobble the Kaspersky files did it think to do anything.

It wrote a report.

The words chcolate and teapot come to mind.

I should have the thing rebuilt by tomorrow
