hi all - new here - but get the feeling this forum and my recent purchase will keep me off facebook for a good while.

ok - i have spent a few days now looking at lots and lots of posts relating to my problems - but they are not exactly the same as mine - so i would like to list them here and get a personal opinion on what you think about my problems if i could - here we go...

2000 110cdi vito 2.2d (W638 i believe) no contact with previous owner

problems:
1. backlight on dash stays lit after leaving van - key out - doors locked (previous owner fitted a battery cut off switch - im presuming its for this problem) - i have ordered a replacement fog switch as the one thats in is very very stiff - but i have even disconnected this switch and dash lights still stay on

2. rev - speed - petrol gauges work - but not temp

3. small lcd panel where miles should be displayed lights up - but no digits

i have sneaky feeling that maybe this isnt the original dash - and hasnt been coded - how do you know if a dash hasnt been coded please ??

I wouldn't necessarily jump to coding if it were me. These could easily all be individual faults….. Have you had it plugged into STAR yet? That could save lots of time and money; as well as ruling these problems in/out, an older van that has been messed with may well have picked up other issues you are unaware of.
Find a convenient MB specialist (not a dealer) or post the area where you live on here and see if anyone has a recommendation.
