I've just been browsing the VOSA web pages and came across this.

VOSA - Vehicle Recalls

I have been on VOSA for recalls but its best to check recalls with MB as VOSA told me a recall need to be checked for my brakes but MB said no, MB told be of another recall that was due on my instument pack though.

Honest John's web pages good for them too, as well as what to watch out for when buying :)

How do I determine the build date of my car? Some of the recalls are for certain build date ranges.

Hi, this might be a stupid q. Do indies get notified for recall work when it comes to service time?? As I had an injector recall on my last service..

Could well be that there is some truth in manufacturers claims that the number of recalls reflects more on their concerns with safety, rather than the safety of the cars themselves
eg no recalls listed for widespread and well reported VW Teves braking issues
Seem to recall issues with BMWs and Renaults that were also not subject to recalls

and Renaults that were also not subject to recalls

Clio bonnet springing up without warning springs to mind.

Japanese are perhaps more safety conscious.

Also seem to remember Vauxhall on Watchdog for not issuing a recall for something that blatantly should have been although I forget what now.

Handbrake not holding IIRC

I think you're right.
