Hi all,
first of all, I know that this is not the correct forum but since I do not have 30 posts I have to post it here for the time being.

Nevertheless, I understand that some of you are curious about the advance of the restoration project of my 300se fintail.
Here's how far I am at the moment:

built out rear window
dismantled all four doors of interior and exterior parts
built out rear and passenger seat
dismantled all chrome parts on the rear

planned steps next week:
take out windscreen
dismantle dashboard

main objectives of this projects are:
complete replacement of the roof lining - when the foam insulation deteriorated it discolored the lining in ugly patches
restoration of all seams in the seats - but keeping the original leather (patina!)
restoration of the dasbouard surround - ugly wobble created by sun exposure
replacement of rubbers around the doors
restoration of all wooden applications
rechroming of all chrome parts - has anyone got a recommendable address?
replacement of front brakediscs and all brake pads
conversion to electronic ignition
repair of a few rustbubbles and dents and total respray - in original color

that's about it. since the car had been waxoyled inside and out some years ago I can afford to do a "soft" restoration, no total rebuilds or welding to do :)

I will keep you posted abut the progress and provide some pics too.

greets

as promised a few pics documenting the dismantling

greetings from the smaller island on a rainy sunday afternoon

...all windows out, the roof lining gone out as well, dashboard surround out, inevitable mice nest found behind center tunnel cover, under radio. don't tell me they don't know what good taste is! :)
also solved mystery why none of the dial lights worked: the "light strenght adjuster" (what's the correct term?) burned.
By the way: has anyone got one on the shelf?
I know someone who would be more than thankful...

pics will follow, my hands were too soiled to grab the camera.

...for all in the world I could't remember the technical term in english, it only ocurred to me today that I was referring to the "dimmer"!

It's called a rheostat. Usually you can fix the Bosch rheostats with a bit of fiddling about.

see, there is no day without learning something new :)
unfortunately the rheostat has burnt/melted beyond repair but since Ireland has the metric system I have considered to change the dial altogether.
