w202 c180 sluggish gearbox

Hi All.
My w202 c180 94 is all good although I have noticed the gearbox doesn't like kickdown. It is foot to the floorboards in 3rd to get to 2nd and in 4th it won't kick down at all ( when manually change to 3rd it is about 4000rpm so a bit to go). The car will redline and pulls very well. 1st to 2nd change is smooth, 2nd to 3rd is a bit whippy, 3rd to 4th smooth. Seems to hang on to the gears more when cold.

Questions:
would a gearbox oil and filter change help?
Is there a kickdown switch or mechanism on this car that can go out of adjustment?
Is my gearbox capable of the gearbox memory thing and needs resetting?

Hi there, if the MAF is OK (if you have one) then the fuel pump relay could be open circuit on one track on the PCB this applies to all MBs

Hi, I think you need to ensure the selector switch is in S (Sunner / Sport) to get kick down to work properly.
