I came across a picture of someones w202 that had a lcd screen just infront of the ashtray  and cubbyhole, perhaps in place of them I'm not sure. I'd just like to know which screen your using that fits in there nicely, and was it much of a mare to run cables undercarpets to the boot etc.?

Navigation screen, 7" Widescreen, surround made in metal and covered in leather.

it's in Koolvin's car. The screen surround/fascia was made in Rossendale somewhere apparently! :)

Koolvin's sure is THE job to replicate if you want that fully integrated finish.

This was the finish I went for. No custom parts required, can be removed by me very quickly, ciglighter still usable for tyre air compressor etc etc. It is a smaller screen than Koolvin's though. Mine is a CY-VMR5800 5.8INCH widescreen colour LCD monitor.

The answer is no, not really. Sure you need to set aside half to 3/4 of a day for the whole job, but rear seat out, all the cable ducts from front to rear are all very accessible once you get the door sills up too.

The wires to contend with:

The basic loom (there was another cable for the monitor) looked like this.

I kept my DVD drive/"Sat Nav Brain" at the rear of the car, with the GPS aerial, so only the wires for the Screen and the illumination etc etc had to travel the length of the car.

If you have folding seats, you just need to remove the side bolsters of the rear seat, if not, the whole back. It's easy the base unclips and the back is only a few easy bolts.

With them off you can access the cable ducts that run the lenght of the car. The section that goes over the wheel arch effectivly is the widest.

Then it's just a matter of feeding your cables down the car.

If you need any more help, just say.

Thanks, I'm PM'ing Koolvin to see what make model of screen that is, I'd hate to fork out for a 7" screen only to find the casing is bigger or something. I'm off to my local auto interiors shop tomorrow armed with these photos!

Thanks again.

I got a 7" widescreen TFT with USB touch kit and VGA/composite inputs for £160. It comes with a headrest installation kit as well. You might want to consider this as you could use the headrest kit as the bezel to hold the monitor and then remove it for security.

If you are getting a shop to do this work you may want to consider the fact the casing for the Clarion 7" screen had to be removed for the screen to fit in that space, with a custom made surround. Some handy work also had to be done to relocate the buttons. You may find a specialist company to do this for you, but doubt the warranty on the screen would remain, unless you do the work yourself, therefore can reassemble it for any warranty claims.

I'm only looking for them make the surround, and make it fit properly (no squeaks please!). Hopefully if they're any good it should be finished in the same black vinyl as the rest of the dash and look like a proper job, like koolvins. As for taking the screen apart to make it fit, sounds like fun to me :D I'm not going to get a clarion screen, I'd rather a touchscreen with VGA input, I'm hoping not to have to remount the buttons though, I think there is enough space above and below.
